Sustainability

Progress you can measure.

Making a positive contribution to the communities where we operate is fundamental to our business.

Our conviction

Climate risk is investment risk.

We believe there is a strong link between rigorous, outcome-focused ESG practice and better investment performance.

Integrating climate and sustainability considerations into investment processes helps build more resilient portfolios and better long-term, risk-adjusted returns.

Our materiality-based, disciplined ESG approach is applied throughout the investment life-cycle, so that we consider the factors most critical for each sector and country.

Impact in numbers

Lower-carbon infrastructure.

  • 250MWgenerated from waste heat at Bazian, with no additional fuel
  • 200+MWwind capacity developed, owned and exited
  • €600minvested in renewables
  • ~95%local employees at the Bazian Refinery

In practice

What it looks like on the ground.

  1. More power, no more fuel

Our combined-cycle expansion at Bazian generates 250 MW from waste heat, with no additional fuel.

  2. Cleaner fuel for power

Bazian runs primarily on natural gas from the Khor Mor field; Miran can reduce emissions from flaring and diesel use.

  3. Renewables developed

We have developed, owned and exited more than 200 MW of wind capacity in Portugal and Spain.

  4. Cleaner refined products

The Bazian Refinery produces cleaner-burning gasoline and diesel, LPG and kerosene, with less surplus heavy fuel oil.

  5. Quieter oceans

ONEX Peace was the world’s first merchant ship certified by DNV for low underwater radiated noise.

  6. Local employment

Around 95% of the 400+ people at the Bazian Refinery are local.

Approach & integration

People and communities first.

We are committed to meaningfully helping the communities where we live and work, through strategic partnerships, charitable giving and team involvement.

01Across the investment life-cycle

Our materiality-based, disciplined ESG approach is applied throughout the investment life-cycle, so that we consider the factors most critical for each sector and country.

02What we measure

We measure our ESG performance through metrics including:

  • renewable generation
  • CO₂ avoidance
  • lost-time injury rate
  • gender diversity
  • governance targets
03Communities

Our charitable programme focuses on three areas:

  • health
  • housing
  • education
04Infrastructure that respects the environment

From lower-emission energy and digital connectivity to efficient logistics and energy-efficient consumer products, our infrastructure is designed to reduce carbon impact, promote resilience and create long-term value for the communities we serve.
